Visitors often ask us the same question: "Should I do Mt. Dikeos or Zia first?" Both are in the TrailKos app, both deliver big views, but they suit different days and fitness levels.
Zia Village Loop — start here if…
- You want a scenic walk without a major climb.
- You are travelling with mixed abilities or younger hikers.
- You plan to finish with coffee or dinner in Zia village.
- You only have 2–3 hours.
The loop is one of the most photogenic routes on Kos — winding lanes, mountain herbs, and sunset spots that made the village famous.
Mt. Dikeos Summit — choose this if…
- You want the highest viewpoint on the island.
- You are comfortable with moderate elevation gain and rocky sections.
- You can start early (summer heat builds fast on the upper trail).
- You have 3–4+ hours including breaks.
Dikeos is the headline hike. On a clear day you can see across to Kalymnos and the Turkish coast. It is tougher than Zia, but the payoff is unmatched.
Our suggested order
Day 1: Zia Village Loop — acclimatise, enjoy the village, learn how Kos mountain paths feel.
Day 2 or 3: Mt. Dikeos Summit — go early, carry extra water, and check wind at the top.
Doing both in one day is possible for fit hikers, but most people enjoy them more when separated. Save your legs — Kos has plenty more to explore.
