Summer hiking on Kos is a morning sport. By 11:00 the sun is already serious, and coastal paths radiate heat. If you can set an alarm, sunrise hikes are the premium experience — cooler air, softer light, and trails that feel like they are yours alone.
1. Psalidi Coastal Trail
East-facing coast means early light over the Aegean. Flat terrain, easy pacing, and a strong coffee reward back in town.
2. Zia Village Loop (early start)
Arrive before the village wakes and you get misty lanes and quiet viewpoints. Stay for breakfast when the tavernas open.
3. Asclepeion Ancient Path
Historic atmosphere at dawn is hard to beat. The ascent warms you up as the sun clears the horizon.
4. Mt. Dikeos Summit
For experienced hikers only at sunrise — start in the dark with a headlamp, check the forecast, and never go alone. The summit view at first light is unforgettable.
5. Kos Town Countryside Circular
Low commitment, high reward. A 60–90 minute loop through olive groves while the island still feels asleep.
Before you go
- Tell someone your route and expected return time.
- Carry a headlamp for pre-dawn starts.
- Download offline maps — you will not want to rely on loading tiles at 5:30 am.
Early starts are not just for photographers. On Kos, they are the smartest way to hike from June through September.
